The Emerald Isle

The Southwest ABOVE: A waterfall near Inchiquin Lough, Kilinaboy, County Clare. RIGHT: The High cliffs of Valentia Island off the coast of County Kerry. beautiful and tranquil Inchiquin Lough amid splendid scenery. There is a flourishing plantlife here, including, on the lough’s southern shore, an area of primeval sessile oaks, known as Uragh Wood, and there is even a spectacular waterfall, falling from another lake in the hills above Inchiquin Lough. Because of the Gulf Stream, subtropical plants grow everywhere, with palm trees, yuccas, bamboos, and fuchsias in profusion, alongside rhododendrons, the strawberry tree ( arbutus ), yellow gorse, and green oaks, and willows. 220
